Altripan welcomes very first FLEGT licensed plywood exported from Indonesia

Antwerp – 18/01/2017

Altripan is honoured to be the panel importer that received the very first batch of FLEGT licensed plywood exported from Indonesia to the European Union. This arrival was welcomed by means of a well-attended ceremony in the Altripan headquarters in Antwerp.

The event was graced by the attendance of several dignitaries:

Ms. Marie Christine Marghem, Federal Minister for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development.

Mr. Yuri O. Thamrin, Ambassador of Indonesia to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU.

Mr. Daniel Calleja Crespo, Director General for Environment of the European Commission.

Mr. Tom Monballiu, Deputy Port Ambassador for the Antwerp Port Authority.

These officials as well as Mr. Koen De Witte, CEO Altripan nv, stressed in their speeches the importance of FLEGT licensing as the best means to eradicate illegal imports from protected resources.

Responsible sourcing has been the core value of Altripan with a proven track record in the field. The arrival of FLEGT plywood from Indonesia is not an endpoint of our journey but rather a motivation to increase our efforts on the field and stimulate our partners to unremitting efforts to produce and procure durable materials. Our ongoing partnering with FSC and PEFC is part of this strategy.
